Nineonesix

Guiding all kinds of clients from film crews, universities and clothing designers through the British Wilderness, Nineonesix-Guiding know a thing or two about adventure and extreme survival. Their website is filled with incredible photos and blog posts set in a wide range of locations and weather conditions.

The friendly team at Openhouse have previously helped Jim Sutherland and John Davidson of the Nineonesix group when they completed a two day mountain biking trip from Strathcarron over to Strathconnon.

Openhouse supplied them with Self Heating Meal Kits to lighten their load and give them a warm cooked meal morning, noon and night. The lightweight meal packs allowed the intrepid explorers to leave their gas cookers at home, reduce the weight of their packs and still have a well deserved, warm and comforting meal.

They had the opportunity to try the All Day Breakfast, Chicken in Pasta, Sticky Toffee Pudding & Spicy Rice Pudding, and Jim’s review was glowing!

“No dirty pots”

“The attraction for us was to go clean and light with no dirty pots to deal with and only one pot for water, plus stove required.  We were not disappointed – a careful read of the instructions, a few minutes wait while it heated and we were soon enjoying warm, proper food.”

The two cyclists stayed in a small shelter, but with an error in their own timing they almost missed out on shelter at all as a large group of backpackers from the TGO challenge were taking up the beds. In the end John got a bunk while poor Jim got the floor, better than being outside though! You can read more about their story here.

New 3 Day Expedition

Now Jim and another of his Nineonesix gang are going on a 3 day expedition, which will again take them on a trail through the Scottish Mountains, this time from Aberdeen to Fort William and then up to Inverness. Jim emailed to tell us a bit about the next trip:

“We are doing it the hard way and in the middle section we’ll pass through some spectacular, remote mountain scenery between The Cairngorm mountains and the Ben Nevis area.”

Openhouse have agreed once again to supply them with a few hot meal kits and desserts to make their trip a bit more pleasant. We can’t wait to hear about the next trip!
