Sewing Machinist – Trainees Welcome
Join the team at Openhouse Products, a family-run manufacturer of bags, pouches and textile products for medical and emergency services.
We’re looking for a practical person with a keen eye for detail and a willingness to learn. Previous industrial sewing experience is an advantage, but training can be provided.
Pay and benefits
- Trainee starting pay: £12.71 per hour, rising to £13.00 per hour following successful completion of your probationary period

Working hours
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00am to 4:30pm
- Friday: 8:00am to 2:00pm
The role
Working with guidance from our Supervisors, you will follow drawings, material requisitions and instructions to sew and assemble a variety of products, including bags, pouches and covers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating industrial sewing machines appropriate to each product.
- Producing work that meets our quality standards.
- Checking your work for accuracy and finish.
- Threading machines and carrying out basic maintenance, with training where required.
Depending on the work, you may use walking foot flatbed, elastic binding, cylinder arm, taper and automatic pattern sewing machines.
What we’re looking for
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
- The ability to follow verbal instructions and learn to read production drawings.
- A willingness to learn new skills and work as part of a team.
- Previous industrial sewing experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
