At Openhouse, we are celebrating the success of The Red Vanguard Bag even further as it has had two articles written about it both on the NHS England website and on Sutton CCG’s own website!

The Red Bag has recently received a parliamentary launch and head been officially recognised by the Care Minister.  Originally, The Red Bag Scheme was launched in 2015 and aimed to transform the process of transferring patients from care homes to hospitals and back again.  Since then the scheme has grown vastly, with the bag being launched nationwide.

These two articles further evidence the positive influence of the bag.  As well has having room for personal belongings in addition to medication and patient documents, the bag clearly identifies the person as a care home resident, which means they can possibly be discharged sooner as the care home will have been involved in discussions with the hospital.  The bag also stays with the patient throughout their time at hospital which can offer them a sense of security during the transfer.
